Skyline family,

Amidst the logistical challenges that come with starting a brand new school year - especially one as unique as this one - and the inevitable messiness that comes with it, our entire Skyline community has made it undoubtedly clear: we got this. From students continually showing up to engage live on Zoom, to families exercising great patience as we work together to make this process smoother, to members of our Skyline team continuing to do allllll the extras in service to our students and families, Skyline continues to show up in ways that prove time and again why this community is so incredibly special. While there will certainty be challenges ahead as we continue to navigate into some parts unknown, we know we got this.

This week’s issue of The Weekly Titan brings you updates on our distance learning “bell” schedule, our next Skyline Family Forum, and Back-to-School Night. Read-On!


DISTANCE LEARNING BELL SCHEDULE: Given that the Tentative Agreement between OUSD and OEA is nearing the final steps of ratification, we will delay the implementation of the final “official” distance learning bell schedule. We will maintain our 2020-2021 DRAFT Distance Learning "Bell" Schedule (linked) for this coming week of August 24-28. Again, please keep in mind that this draft schedule will shift once the Tentative Agreement is ratified.

VIRTUAL FRONT OFFICE: Need to complete the registration process? Can't get into AERIES? Looking to speak to someone live about a question you have? Skyline's Virtual Front Office will continue to be open from 8AM - 12PM to support Skyline families! (You can enter Skyline’s Virtual Front Office through Skyline’s Welcome Back Site!).

UNIVERSAL CLASSROOM: Student missing a zoom link? Looking for a Google Classroom code? Don't know where to go? Skyline's Universal Classroom will continue to be open from 9AM - 12PM to support Skyline students with live and immediate help! (You can enter Skyline’s Universal Classroom through Skyline’s Welcome Back Site!).

SKYLINE FAMILY FORUM: Our next Skyline Family Forum is scheduled for the evening of Tuesday, September 1, 2020. At this meeting we plan to cover a number of topics, including our “Official” Skyline Distance Learning Bell Schedule, support available to students and families, grading and attendance policies, opportunities for families to get involved at Skyline, and a space to share other questions you may have. More details coming soon!

BACK-TO-SCHOOL NIGHT: That’s right, Back-to-School Night is still on, and our entire Skyline team is excited to meet our families! Save the date for September 9, 2020 @ 6PM. More details coming soon!

July 24, 2020: WELCOME BACK, FAMILY.

Skyline Family,

We hope this continues to find you and yours in the best health and spirits.

We are just weeks away from August 10th, the start of OUSD's 2020-2021 academic school year, and we are eager and excited to welcome students, families, and staff back into our shared (virtual) community. Although recent communications from OUSD and Governor Gavin Newsom have given us a bit more clarity as we look towards the coming school year, many questions remain unanswered until new agreements are reached between the district and its labor unions.

To fill information gaps as best we can, we have created a Skyline Question + Answers page where commonly asked questions are answered. Like last spring, we will continually update this page as more information becomes available.

In the meantime, our entire Skyline Team has been working hard this summer to build upon the priority work we collectively started last spring:


      • Summer "mini-grant" allocations to students and families in need

      • Ongoing mental health and academic counseling

      • Deep cleaning of our site (much love to our custodial team!)

      • Grab-and-Go meal distribution support


      • Incoming 9th grade Summer Bridge Program

      • Summer Credit Recovery Program

      • Continued technology access support

      • Summer internships and classes

      • Student enrollment, scheduling and registration planning


      • Ongoing efforts to improve communication

      • Advocacy work for Skyline facilities

      • Black Lives Matter student and staff support

      • Welcome Back! planning and events for student and families

      • Summer Professional Development focused on racial equity, cultural responsiveness, distance learning instruction, and more

We also want to share two important announcements that will help all students and families be prepared for the new school year:


  • Skyline's registration begins this Tuesday, July 28. This year, the registration process will happen entirely online - a fast, easy, and safe way to complete this important step before the new school year begins. For details and information, please visit this site regularly as it will be updated regularly.


  • While we are still unable to meet in person, we will continue to create opportunities to connect virtually with students and families to share information and answer your questions. We currently plan to host two Family Forums via Zoom in the coming weeks:

      • Monday, August 3rd (5:30PM): 9th Grade, 10th Grade, and Transfer Students

      • Tuesday, August 4th (5:30PM): 11th and 12th Grade

We will offer concurrent sessions in English and Spanish, and will be sure to record each and share with the entire community for those that are unable to make it. More details, including links and directions, will be shared soon. If there is a question and/or specific topic you would like covered during the Family Forum, please submit them here.

Rest assured that the Skyline Leadership Team will strive to keep you and the entire Skyline community informed with the most up-to-date information regarding the start of the school year. Look for more special announcements and updates - including information on scheduling, attendance and grading - in the coming weeks.
